Casper our Pup
Casper is a Westie and is the most wonderful -needy- companion. His start in life was not the greatest and he came to us with a few strange foibles. Certain things trigger a reaction in him that make it appear that he has disconnected from his brain.
We love Casper for who he is, as individual as that may be, and are doing our best to connect with him and understand his unspoken needs.
Caspers foibles:
He has a strong aversion to wheels. Skateboards, in particular, are his pet (sorry) peeve. But he also doesn’t like scooters or bicycles. Or wheelchairs! (And that’s just embarrassing.)
When he spots an offending wheel, it is almost impossible to get his attention back to normal everyday things – like breathing!
He also chases shadows. In the beginning we found this to be very fascinating and fun but very soon realized that it was also a brain disconnect activity.
Thank goodness for PePi!

Understanding Casper
Top line, these Energetic Personalities confirm what we have come to understand about Casper. He is a very loving and affectionate dog who loves to be loved.
He is also wildly energetic and needs lots of physical activity whether it be vigorous walks or rough housing play.
Unlike Skye (his BFF in the photo) who’s individual Energetic Personalities are Responsible Inspirational and Caring Compassionate.
Skye is a responsible pup, she needs to feel useful, likes to help and wants to have a job. And this is braided with her caring, needy and compassionate heart.
Is my dog weird?
Casper’s Energetic Personality Imprint also helped explain some of the special ways that we need to respond, to deal with his unusual behaviour.
For example, one key understanding from the Caring Compassionate Energetic Personality is that he should not be scolded, but rather guided with positive reinforcement.
That of course presents quite a challenge to us as his caregivers especially when he is in brain disconnect.
If he were a Cool Intellectual, an Emotional Charismatic or a Responsible Inspirational, appropriate reprimands would be possible. But Caring Compassionate Casper and Skye both fall apart from such unloving actions.
Being there for my dog – warts and all
Casper and Skye’s Energetic Personality Imprints also give us great insights into how training them can be quicker and easier; how best to make sure they stay as healthy as possible; how they want to be loved and how best to navigate day-to-day interactions and challenges.
We care deeply about Casper and aren’t surprised how much we have come to love him, foibles, and all. We want to make his world happier because we know it will help make our world happy.
